1988-89 ALHS Girls Basketball Team
The 1988-89 Girls Basketball Team at Avon Lake High School distinguished themselves with a record breaking season. They had and overall record of 22-2 and a conference mark of 13-1, both records at that time. In addition, their 16 game regular season winning streak also established a new benchmark. The team finished as the District Runner-up which equaled the best tournament finish in school history.
Several team members along with Coach Russ Lynch, who was SWC Coach of the Year, received special honors. Lisa Sebastian was All-Ohio and SWC Most Valuable Player as well as an All-Conference selection. Melissa Banjoff was also a First Team All Conference pick. Sebastian was the Team MVP, Tanya Andolsen was the Team Scholar Athlete, Chris Balas received the Hustle Award and Toni Fortson the Rebounder Award.
