Wayne Smith

Wayne Smith was a 1973 graduate of Avon Lake High School and has been recognized as one of the Maroon and Gold’s finest all-around athletes. He was an All-Conference performer in three sports during his junior and senior years; a quarterback on the football team; a guard on the basketball team, and a shortstop on the baseball team. He also was a two-time Most Valuable Player in football and MVP in baseball his senior year. An All-County selection in football, Wayne was also a Plain Dealer Dream Team and Press Star in 1972. Upon graduation he received a full scholarship to Youngstown State University, where he played three years, including the 1975 season where the “Penguins” played in the NCAA Division II play-offs.

Wayne graduated from Youngstown State in 1977 and presently lives in North Canton, Ohio.
