Hunt Gammel was a 1964 graduate of Avon Lake where he earned honors and awards in three sports. Gammel earned nine varsity letters as a solid performer in track, football and basketball. He captained all three teams his senior year and was honored as the team’s MVP in football and track.

Gammel was an all-conference performer in track and football and an all-tournament performer in basketball. In track he was the SWC champion in the 180 low hurdles, the 120 high hurdles and as a member of the 880 yard relay team. He held conference records in the 180 low hurdles and the 120 high hurdles as well as school records in the 120 and 180 hurdles.

Gammel continued his athletic career as a member of the track team at Baldwin Wallace College. As a middle distance hurdler, he was a stalwart performer under the legendary coach Sparky Adams, a national Track Hall of Famer.
