1995 &1996 Shoremen Tennis Team

The 1995-1996 Shoremen tennis team responded to high expectations and ended the year with the best season in the program's history.

Coached by Nizar Fadel, the team finished the year with a 17-1 record and scored the schools first-ever Southwestern Conference championship in boys tennis. The Shoremen took the title away from four-time defending champion Westlake that year. The Demons were the only team to defeat the Shoremen that season. The two teams split their season series a I-I.

Of the team's 17 victories, nine were 5-0 shutouts. The Shoremen also earned two tournament championships. Avon Lake won the Lorain County Athletic Administrators Association Tournament for the fourth time in five seasons and captured that year's SWC Tournament title.

Chris Johnson earned team and conference MVP awards playing at first singles. The second team All-SWC award-winner was also the team's Scholar Athlete.

Russ Phillips, playing at third singles, earned a first team All-SWC award. Phillips was also selected as the team's Most Improved Player.
