1990-91 ALHS Boys Basketball Team

Avon Lake’s 1990-91 basketball season was nicknamed “A Season to Remember” for good reason. The team accomplished what no other Shoreman team in the 76 year history had ever done: a regional appearance and runner-up trophy, a district championship, and a 22 win season. They dominated the SWC with a 13-1 record in a year that found the conference exceptionally strong. Rocky River advanced to the Regionals in Division III, and Westlake and North Olmsted were District Finalists in Division I. The Shoremen defeated state ranked Benedictine 100-79 and Cleveland Central Catholic 60-44.
Craig Bradley was honored as Lorain County’s Mr. Basketball, a first for Avon Lake. He and Mike Gerrasch were first team All Conference. Gerrasch, Bradley, Frank Bolognia and Tom Ballantine were named to the All-County Squad.
It was a memorable year in many ways as team, individual and attendance records were set. Community pride was evident as packed gyms were the norm and literally thousands followed the team on the tournament trail. For many in Avon Lake it was truly “A Season to Remember”.
