1986-87 Girls Cross Country Team

The 1986-87 Girl’s cross country team will forever have the distinction of being the first state championship team in school history. The girls achieved this recognition in a most impressive fashion. The team was undefeated during the regular season winning seven dual meets and placing first in all six invitationals including: the prestigious McQuaid invitational meet, an international meet, held in Rochester, New York and the N.E.O.T.C.C. Edgewater meet where they defeated all the area AAA teams.
The postseason was equally impressive as they took first place in the conference, district and regional meets. They capped the undefeated season by taking first place in the AA State championship meet.
The girls were coached by Al Buckeye and led by four year varsity letter winners: Missy Bailey, Kris Niehenke, Jodi Sandvik and Tracy Stadnicar. Kristy Lockhead won her third year varsity award. Rounding out the team was an impressive group of freshmen earning their first year varsity letter including Suzan Beam, Julie Hart, Amy Houdeshell, Vivian Lockhead, Lisa Whittington and Beth Jasko.
