The 1984-85 boys basketball team accomplished something that had never been done before… they won the SWC Championship! To add to this achievement they also had Co-MVPs in Tim Dillon and Doug Wichman, and Coach of the Year Dick Deasy.
The team finished 12-2 in conference and 16-5 overall. Non-conference losses to state ranked Southview by 1 and state bound Lorain Catholic were the only other blemishes in regular season. Tim Dillon won the Gordon Splete Outstanding Senior Player; Herb Nussle was the Scholar Athlete; Doug Wichman and Dillon shared the MVP Award; Jim Brown was “Mr. Hustle”, an award that was eventually named after him. Dillon, Wichman, Kloc, Brown and Konya received All Conference Recognition.
This team set the tone for a decade of basketball excellence that included 5 championships during the run.
