1976-77 ALHS Football Team

Few football teams have gone undefeated in the rugged SWC in Avon Lake school history. The 1976 squad became one of those teams and also added an undefeated season finishing 8-0-1 on the year. The 1976 Championship also represented the third consecutive SWC title for the Shoremen, with several members having played all three years.

Seven members of the team were named All SWC; Tim Loeser, Tony Frank, Jim Steubner, Joe Newlin, Doug Roese, Tim Thomas, and John Watterson. Coach Al O’Neil was named Northeast Ohio AAA Coach of the Year and SWC Coach of the Year.
