Yvonne Saul Craigo

Back in the mid 1980s the Avon Lake Shoregals fielded some of the toughest cross-country and track teams in the state. Yvonne Saul-Craigo was a big part of their success.

A State qualifier her junior and senior years, Saul-Craigo led the 1985 cross-country team to a sixth place finish at state. Among her many accomplishments on the cross-country course, she made All-Southwestern Conference three times, make the All-SWC second team as a sophomore and first team as a freshman and junior.

She lettered all four years. During the SWC championships her senior year, she nailed the SWC titles in both the 400 meter dash and the 800 meter run. The feat was a remarkable one considering there was just one race between both events. She went to state her junior and senior years. During her senior trip she teamed up with Lisa Clark, Kristy Lochhead, and Missy Bailey to set a state record in the 4x1600.

She set a school record in the women’s 800 with a time of 2:15.9 and helped set a school 4x800 record of 9:19.80 with Lochhead, Bailey and Clark. She earned Second-Team All-Ohio honors in 1986. She went on to compete at Kent State University, where she lettered in track and cross country.
