Patty Buckeye Martel

One of Avon Lake High School’s finest athletes, Patty was a four sport competitor. She won seven varsity letters in cross-country, track and basketball as a student at Avon Lake High School and was an outstanding swimmer with independent teams qualifying for the Nationals in 1976 and the Regionals in 1977 where she set nine records.

Patty’s high school track performance was equally remarkable; chosen high school All-American in 1977 and earning numerous awards such as S.W

C.’s Most Valuable, Lorain County’s Outstanding Performer and team Most Valuable in 1977 and 1979.
In cross-country Patty held the team record for the 2 and 2.5 mile runs and finished 4th in the first “unofficial” state meet in 1976 and 2nd in 1977.

Patty was also honored as Avon Lake’s Outstanding Scholar-Athlete and the American Legion Athlete of the Year her senior year.
