Michael Kolczun, II MD

Orthopedic physician and surgeon Dr. Michael Kolczun II has been the most valuable player in the recovery of countless Avon Lake High School athletes since 1975.

The co-founder of Kolczun & Kolczun Orthopedic Associates with his father in 1973, he has served as Avon Lake High School's team physician since 1974. Kolczun has worked tirelessly over the last 30-plus years providing top-quality preventative, follow-up care and rehabilitation services for athletes regardless of the injury, time of day or the athlete's ability to pay.

Kolczun's services include the kind of attention to details often enjoyed by athletes competing beyond the high school level. Kolczun & Ko1czun Sports Medicine provides Lorain County schools with full-time on-site certified athletic trainers free of charge, Orthopedic doctors that attend all home football games, a fully staffed Saturday morning clinic for athletes injured on Friday nights and sports medicine seminars for coaches at the CYO, junior high and high school levels.

Kolczun's career as a standout physician was preceded by a standout athletic career. A graduate of Gilmour Academy, Kolczun played football and track. He attended Kenyon College and would earn 12 varsity letters playing football, lacrosse and track. He earned his medical degree at Louisiana State University in 1968 before his residency with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 1969. He is the author of itA Coach's Desk Reference to Athletic Injuries" and is a member of the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame.
