Kim Gehring Weaver

A 1978 graduate of Avon Lake High School, she began her career at Lorain Catholic, setting school records in the 40 yard dash and the mile. Kim represented Lorain Catholic in the state track meet and placed sixth overall. She was their MVP in 1977. At Avon Lake, Kim set school records in both the 440 and 100 meter hurdles. In cross country she finished fifth in the SWC and still has a time listed in the top twenty-five times in school history, in the two and a half mile run.

It was in 1988 that she decided to try her hand at the triathlon, an athletic event that requires the participant to perform in the sports of swimming, running and cycling. In just a year after taking up the sport seriously Ms. Weaver had earned world class status.

In 1989 she qualified as a member of national Team USA and finished seventh in her age group at the World Championships held in Avignon, France. Kim has since qualified to run for the USA Triathlon and Duathlon teams a total of 5 times and has competed for the USA three times.

Some career highlights include a 12th place finish at the Canada Triathlon in 1992. The year 1994 included a first place finish in the National City Triathlon held in Cleveland, a qualification for the World Duathlon teams of Tasmania, Australia, and an invitation to be a member of the World Triathlon team in New Zealand. She also placed eighth in the World Duathlon championships held in Texas and has been undefeated in her age bracket for triathlons of Olympic distance.

While continuing to improve her world class status Kim is also working hard with young runners of the community. Her AAU teams have won National championships. She continues to coach track and cross country for both Learwood and CYO, as well as the distance runners of the Avon Lake High School track team.
