Charles “Chuck” Becker

Charles Becker excelled in many sports at Avon Lake High School, but fans and classmates that followed the Shoremen in the late 1950s probably remember him most for what he did on the basketball court.

Becker finished his three year basketball career with 752 points and 659 rebounds. At the time his career point totals were second only to Tom Deffenbaugh (902 points) in the record books. The mark is ninth on today’s list of all-time career scorers. He scored 321 points and hauled in 238 rebounds in his senior year in 1959.

Becker earned All-Seaway Conference and All-Lorain Country first team honors in 1959 and went on to play basketball at the University of Akron.
