Bob Gammel

Bob Gammel, a 1966 graduate of Avon Lake High School , was another exceptional athlete and student leader. Bob was an All-Southwestern Conference football choice in 1964 and 1965, the Most Valuable Player of his team in 1965 and the leading scorer in Lorain County and the SWC his senior year. Being selected to the Cleveland “Dream Team” in football highlighted his three year football career where he received numerous awards and honors. Bob also lettered three years in track and received the Wood Memorial Trophy as the most outstanding performer.

Gammel’s senior year stats of 1,270 yards gained on 128 carries for a 9.9 average is still tops for 100 carries or more in Avon Lake history and 5th in the Lorain County history.  He also distinguished himself as a school leader as Senior Class President, Junior Class Treasurer and President of Varsity Club.
